Kill The Captains

Kill The Captains are a four piece alternative rock band from the Sheffield area that formed in 2006, starting out as friends who just wanted to jam and have fun making music. Over time they have refined their sound and direction and have come to be the musically energetic and hard working band they are today. Having spent the last two years working hard and gigging throughout the UK they have also gained an all important live energy. Their self titled debut EP contains four tracks which show a variety of styles and angles, all under the heading of psychedelic/alternative rock.

The wandering sounds of opening track “Bottom Lip” accompanied by catchy breaks in dynamic blend well with the vocals which follow unconventional melodies giving the song an original feeling. The pace of the track keep you excited through what is a short a sharp opener. The galloping rhythm of “Chrunt” and its noisy implosion mid way through are also original ideas which show the bands ability as musicians both individually and as a group. The slowest song on the EP is “Long In The Tooth” and is a welcome break from the frenzy provided by the previous two tracks. “Fun Anxiety” is also a fast track which builds throughout and I’m sure is a big hit in their live sets.

Kill The Captains provide energy and originality in abundance, with ideas flying as fast as the riffs. Edgy and discordant in places they provide something different to your average, safe, radio friendly pop tunes. This may scare some people, and may prove to be a disadvantage but if you’re a fan of off the wall sounds and something a little unusual I suggest you take a listen.
