Jangly summer tune.
Is this one of the most jangly indie-pop tunes ever written? Very probably; the melody on Saturday Looks Good To Me’s new single ‘The Americans’ is sweet and light, perfect for summer parties and afternoon drinking in the park. Lyrically it has a boyish naive charm and when this is put over a string sound, acoustic guitar and keyboards you have something cute and airy with a retro feel. There’s not a huge amount of substance to the song; the vocals are adequate but unemotional and the tune is nice and catchy but doesn’t stick with you for the long haul, however I can definitely see a hoard of people dancing to this at my local indie night; it has a universal appeal and is easy to move to with sing along lyrics.
