Sure it’s nice but it never pushes beyond the borders of nice.

I don’t know if you happen to know many Laura’s but I’ve met a couple in my time and to be honest, the majority of them appear to be mentallers. Don’t get me wrong, all great girls who are fantastic company but not the sort of people you would leave in charge of anything that you care about or would want to have in your possession in at least six months time. That said, their enthusiasm for life is pretty infectious and on the whole, they’re damn good company which is all you can ask for. By the sounds of ‘Release Me’, Oh Laura, the band and don’t think that their lead singer is called Laura, she is called Frida, don’t appear to be up for anything reckless.

It’s a slow and measured song that is fairly pleasant and certainly one destined for the soundtrack of a film, an indie chick-flick that wouldn’t really appeal to the mass market but one that pushes the buttons of the slightly more intelligent and independent female. The chorus ups the stakes a bit and adds some emotion to the track but it doesn’t really catch hold of you that much. One interesting thing is that certain parts of the melody have a strong similarity to ‘If You Could Read My Mind’, a song by Gordon Lightfoot but perhaps more familiar due to the cover on American V by Johnny Cash.

The single made number 5 in the Swedish charts and given that they gave us Henrik Larsson and Kopperberg cider they have a lot going for them but perhaps giving us perfect pop moments. And yes, before you tell us that Abba hail from Sweden, that is known…but lets face it, with that rubbish film on the horizon it is not a good time to be riding the Abba bandwagon at the moment.
