Undeniably stylish.

In a galaxy far far away Gruff Rhys will be hailed as one of the greatest musicians of his time as it appears that the inhabitants of Earth are a bit slow to pick up on the genius of the man. If the output of the Super Furry Animals or his solo albums has been overlooked by some, another chance to get to grips with the Welsh Wizard comes in his Neon Neon side-project.

Teaming up with Boom Bip, the pair have created ‘Stainless Style’, a concept album based on the life of John DeLorean, 80s playboy and inventor of the car made famous in Back To The Future. Fitting for a tribute to a very 80s icon, ‘I Told Her On Alderaan’ is a supreme slice of 1980s light electro-pop. Coming across like the best moments of Moroder, the lyrics features a nod to Star Wars and an ode to a lover in an effort to convince them that there was nothing external going on.

‘Trick For Treat’ is bolstered by SpankRock and Har Mar Superstar adding their personal take on proceedings and in Har Mar’s case, things are predictably filthy. Its more of a modern feel with the hip-hop side coming to the fore but the high pitched vocals and the slightly Eastern feel to the coda makes this a perfect accompaniment to the lead track.

Acting as a perfect advertisement for the long player it hails from, ‘I Told Her On Alderaan’ deserves to be a smash this summer.
