Piano-Led Pop From Brilliant New Songwriter

If Rosabella Gregory seems a little familiar to you, it could be that you’ve already heard her work alongside her twin sister Dina. Here, she goes it alone into the realms of piano-led pop, with surprising results. ‘Water’ has an irresistibly catchy chorus and strong melody, alongside heartfelt and emotional lyrics. What could have easily slipped into mawkish sentimentality actually gets stronger as the song goes on. Gregory is easily comparable to the great and good female singer-songwriters, such as Kate Bush or Tori Amos.

Her piano playing on both ‘Water’ and B-side ‘What Angel’ is neatly understated yet expert, and her voice may not be the strongest, but it easily copes with the ebb and flow between half-whispered to soaring chorus. There’s a timeless quality to this kind of jazz-inspired pop, especially when it’s as beautifully put together as this. Rosabella Gregory will definitely be someone to watch for in the future.
