Radio-friendly orchestral rock

‘I Don’t Care’ is the most obvious radio-friendly release from the ‘Worlds Collide’ album, with vocals from Three Days Grace front man Adam Gontier. The sweet, melancholy riff builds and contrasts brilliantly with the slightly grungy angst-filled lyrics and vocals.

The wonderful thing about it is that unlike a mainstream rock song written with the orchestral pieces merely there to bulk out the sound, the cellos noticeably lead the riffs all the time without sacrificing the sound to guitar noise. Even the now-permanent inclusion of drums does nothing to distract from the catchy lyrics and memorable melodic lines.

It’s easily their most accessible work for a while, and that’s not a bad thing at all. They must be the only band ever to have become more ‘mainstream’ whilst simultaneously losing the ‘novelty’ tag. Purists will be quick to argue that it’s not pure metal anymore, but who cares? It’s good music. Lets lose the labels.
