Above and beyond brilliant

It’s been over two decades since the formation of Bad Habit and it seems the band are still going strong. Formed with a joint ambition to create music that blends hard rock with melodic tendencies while drawing on musical influences of the bands history, Bad Habit still create wonders, as proven with the release of their new album ‘Above and Beyond’.

The way each song is created, structured and expressed is very much in the same area as Bon Jovi in their early days. Similar epic and atmospheric warm inclinations are felt. The opening tune and the bands first single from ‘Above and Beyond’ is the albums most memorable and remarkable song. ‘I Don’t Want You’ has some amazing piano and guitars as the vocals sing about a break up of a relationship. The lyrics of the chorus are exceptionally attractive and unforgettable; “I don’t want you, I don’t need you, I don’t think I could ever be with you now, I don’t love you, I gave you everything but you broke my heart”. Even now I can hear the words running though my mind while I write them. This song has a large impact and drives a listener to want more.

What follows are even more breathtaking tunes full of honest statements and attitude. Some have a touch of mystery surrounding them, like on the running beat of ‘Just A Heart Beat Away’; ‘A Lot To Learn’ has a bounce in its step; ‘I Need Someone’ has a pop flow while the title track is slightly more electric with some amazing melodies. There are a few dark natured numbers. ‘I Believe’ has darker more exploratory guitar riffs with deeper emotions while ‘Surrender’ is passionate, less edgy with some electric segments. You have the gorgeous piano melodies and running drum beat of ‘My Confession’, which also has the odd rumble of electro and then the more ballad styling, gentle wisps of piano, guitars and a very climatic ending of ‘Let Me Be The One’.

‘Above and Beyond’ is an unforgettable album with easy to listen to songs, each being individual for different reasons. All are entertaining and wonderful to listen to. Watch out large UK stadiums, as if these guys took to the stage, the place would go wild.
