Happy Go Lucky
When you think of Irvine Welsh’s writing you probably conjure up images of realist, gritty, grimy tales, but Colin MacIntyre’s new single is the title track for Welsh’s new TV show and it’s about as far away from Welsh’s typical world as you can get. Full of buoyant riffs, twee hums and sweet indie vocals, it would probably also suit the soundtrack to Skins. ‘You’re A Star’ is an infinitely upbeat anthem that glows with positivity and enthusiasm with a strong guitar line and a catchy chorus that repeats enough times to get jammed in your skull. Apparently it’s actually part of a satire on celebrity culture, but you’d probably miss this entirely unless you watch the TV series or read the press release.
‘You’re A Star’ doesn’t show any astounding musical uniqueness, but it’s a fun, frivolous pop song that you’ll soon be humming along to, and maybe it’s frothy nature is also a social comment after all.
