Brilliant Indie Pop

In 27 minutes of catchy tunes The Brontosaurus succeed in creating brilliant pop songs underpinned by instrumental eloquence, sweet vocals and fun but sincere lyrics.

Opener, ‘Love Is The Path To Self-Destruction’ is equal parts bitter lyrics and full-bodied melody that simply sparkles from the range of instruments involved. ‘Now We’re Making Out’ is a glorious, brass-enhanced number that bounces along with unrestrained energy as every instrument pipes in its part to reach a lofty crescendo. The flighty melody breezes along, hooking the listener on catchy riffs along the way. ‘Cat Song’ builds up to the same instrumental heights with brash guitars and stabbing violins propelling an anguished tune that glitters with bitterness; there’s hardly time for a breath as the swirling melodies and giddy rush of vocals carry you along on a glorious indie pop trip. The full-on frantic pop fervour of ‘David Bowie’ is deliciously disco friendly, while maintaining a definite sense of indie sincerity.

Slow song, ‘Bonfires’ is a heartfelt number, inheriting a slight folk feel from the violins but these are soon overtaken by a combination of brass and accordion that have rarely graced such a delicate tune but somehow manage to inject the slow burner with an elegant air without distilling the sentiments. ‘Cinnamon Taste’ is a splendidly cynical ditty, “We don’t believe about anything but ourselves, we’ve got no faith in the future, just in ourselves” spit the acerbic vocals before the tune virtually exhausts itself before building to another epic peak of relentless energy.

27 minutes is all The Brontosaurus Chorus need to put a gleeful smile on your face as they wow you with their array of glistening melodies and buoyant tunes. Since The Long Blondes checked out as our favourite band to shimmy to, it’s quite possible that The Brontosaurus Chorus could fill that gap with music that’s both fun and earnest.
