At an early age it dawned on Jodie that musically she was different from the other kids at school. Whilst they were listening to the latest pop act, Jodie was enthralled by The Beatles and Bowie; she rocked to T-Rex and Guns n Roses and sat mesmerised at the age of about three by a certain Robert Smith from a little band called The Cure as he dominated Top of The Pops (when it was still good!) in all his make up glory. Thanks to the influence of her older sister, Jodie was introduced to Britpop, picking Oasis over Blur just to be different from all the other girls whose musical choice was based on Damon Albarn's looks! Since this time she has remained a faithful follower of anything that falls within the indie/rock/punk category although metal is rapidly finding its way into her heart.
After realising that every single one of her childhood memories came with its own distinct sound track, Jodie came to the conclusion that music was destined to be part of her life. Having recently graduated from university with a first class honors degree in American Studies and History, she is now setting out to achieve her secret life long ambition of becoming a music journalist. At present this consists of doing as much freelance work as possible but even at this early stage it beats any other career choice! Whilst living in St Louis, Missouri for six months in 2001, Jodie got the chance to travel to Memphis and of course had to visit the home of The King. Disappointingly though, she felt that Graceland was surprisingly small, over commercialised and slightly spooky especially with people stood crying around Elvis' graveside! Jodie often feels she has to justify her musical tastes but when one of her first concerts was to see Bon Jovi, people often tell her there is need to do so. Her favourite bands include The Killers, My Chemical Romance, Aiden,Green Day, David Bowie, Foo Fighters, U2,Muse, Lostprophets, Gaslight Anthem, Def Leppard and many many more (really the list could go on forever). Oh, and of course there's still the guilty pleasure of Bon Jovi, although she may deny it when pushed. |
