Anthrax are pioneers of thrash metal. Formed in New York in 1981 they helped mould the hardcore scene. Joining together in high school their first gig was in a church hall in front of 50 people and after that their popularity just grew. That original line up was: Danny Lilker, Dave Weiss, John Connelly and Kenny. But this was not to last for long, continual changes of band members was going to be a theme from then until now. Kenny left first replaced by Paul Kahn (bass). Neil Turbin took over vocals. Dave Weiss left replaced by Gregg D'Angelo (drums) then Paul Kahn left replaced by by Danny Lilker (bass) and a new guitarist Greg Walls joins.1983 hits and Anthrax find themselves sharing accomodation with Metallica. D'Angelo was replaced by Charlie Benante (drums just before they signed to Megaforce records.
Dannyt Spitz then joind the band (guitar). Arguments in the band forced Danny Lilker out and Frank Bello joined on vocals to see the release of their first record in 1984.
Matt Fellori joined for a short period but soon replaced by Joey Belladonna (vocals) and they released 'Armed and Dangerous' signing to Island Records.
Anthrax then seemed to settle into a pattern of touring and releasing albums, dabbling in side projects and the like... till 1991 when Belladonna was fired on the night of the Grammies, he was replaced by John Bush. 1994 saw the release of their 'Live...' album and also saw them fulfil their contract to Island and in 2000 they signed to Beyond Records during this period Danny Spitz was fired while recording 'White Noise' as he was difficult to work with.
