It seems pretty easy for bands to become 'big in Japan' but them coming over here...well that's just a completely different story, this is the one of the Mad Capsule Markets.

Mad Capsule Markets formed back in 1990 in high school. They immediately released the single 'Government Wall' from their debut album 'Humanity' on it's own Insect Noise label. JVC/Victor Entertainment pickedup on the band and signed them early 1991. MCM then just worked on releasing albums and extensive touring of Japan.
'P.O.P' - 1991
'Speak!!!' - 1992
'Mix-Ism' - 1994
'Park' - 1994
Mad Capsules music doesn't easily fit into a gender, it's best described as 'digital-hardcore-thrash-punk-pop'. Although heavily influenced by punk (especially british) the guys were also enjoying the delights of techno and have managed to fuse it all together adding a bit of drum n bass and heavy metal into the mix. Working in Japanese and English also broadens horizons.

MCM finally made it over to the States to promote their most current album at the time '4 Plugs'. Their first show of the tour was San Francisco in 1995. But returned in 1997 doing more high profile shows such as the CMJ Music Marathon in New York and the South By South West Festival in Texas. Promoting their album 'Digidigheadlock' (the first that was made available in the UK) also involved support slots for Rage Against The Machine and Helmet on their Japanese tours. They also made their first of many appearances at the Fuji Rock Festival.

In 1999 they released their ninth full length album 'OSC-DIS' ('Oscillator in Distortion') and started to be recognised as it received a 5K review in Kerrang! and countless positive live reviews throughout the press community. They embarked on a world tour, which involved tours with Pitchshifter and Fear Factory.

Another factor to MCM notoriety is the amount of people that have remixed their work, notably Alec Empire, Adrian Sherwood and DJ Krush.

MCM latest release is their eleventh album to date, 'CiSTm K0nFLiqT...' and there are plans to release a greatest hits shortly after they play main stage at the Download 2005 festival. read less
