Biography

Jean-Marc Valat, Steve Dourdil, Ross Butler and Stephen Aravena are Morning Lane; a fast-developing London based band turning heads with a bag full of beautifully written songs, mixing strong melodies and intense music with a mature on-stage energy.

Jean-Marc and Steve individually worked their way through bands in France, Luxembourg and the UK working with the likes of Robert Miles, Stefan Olsdal (Placebo), Skywalker and Simon Boswell (producer for Blur and Leftfield), and sharing the stage with James Brown, INXS and The Pixies. They got to know each other sharing a flat in Morning Lane, Hackney and first gigged together in the Steve Lamacq toted band Blooming Cellar, but it wasn't until late 2003 Jean-Marc decided to put together a new band, and Morning Lane was born.

Ross came on board in early 2004 after working his way through T in the Park appearances, sessions with Abbey Road producers and playing with US top ten band The Leeches' new incarnation The Screeches. Singer, Stephen followed soon after coming from a successful recording and gigging career in Australia with his band Aravena. Having enjoyed some notable recognition after enjoying airplay on commercial radio, Stephen made the trip to the UK and found a musical home in Morning Lane.

The band has since played many of London popular venues: The Marquee, Bush Hall, The Clapham Grand, The Garage, Hard Rock Cafe, Rock Garden and Roadhouse and many others as part of a short tour of British Universities at the beginning of 2006.

2005 saw the independent release of the band's first album Cry With a Smile through the growing internet download distribution route with sites like Napster and iTunes. The album received strong reviews, recognising that the band had something more to offer than the easily pigeonholed "Indie" tag, and attracted the attention of the BBC and BMI, who invited them to perform at a joint showcase with Gibson Guitars at the start of 2006.

2006 and 2007 have seen Morning Lane's tunes popping up on TV across the world and a new EP showcasing a harder, more focused sound yet preserving the band's musical and melodic instincts.
