Biography

Grant Nicholas and Jon Lee originally got together in Wales in 1992 as Temper Temper. In 1995 they moved down to London and joined up with Taka Hirose (from Tokyo) calling themselves Reel before changing their name to Feeder. They signed to Echo soon after and released a debut EP 'Two Colours', then a mini album 'Swim' in spring 1996.

Touring began to support the next album 'Polythene' released in May 1997. The single 'High' becoming a festival favourite and reached #24 in the charts. In 1998 Feeder started a huge tour of America, returning only for a few shows in the UK that included two nights at the London Astoria, before finishing off the tour across North America. Over 125 shows were played and wasn't hindered by the fact that Grant broke his cheek bone during the tour. The band then started on their second album in the RAK studio London. 'Yesterday Went Too Soon' was mixed by Grant and Andy Wallace (Nirvana/Slayer).

Feeder's 1999 tour didn't go any smoother with Jon breaking his ankle but the band perservered on and had the success of two top forty hits and the album entering at #7 in the album charts. By October the band were playing the biggest shows of their career so far and continued till the Manic Millenium Celebrations at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff.

2000 started off with a headline show at the Carling Premier Award Show then they headed off for an Australian tour. Grant started writing the third album that was recorded in the summer at the Great Linford Manor in Buckinghamshire with Gil Norton (Pixies/Foo Fighters). In 2001 'Buck Rogers' was released, one of the most successful singles of Feeder's career, it entered at #5 and the band had two sell out tours in March and April. Feeder then headed off to Cape Town to film a beach orientated video for 'Seven Days In The Sun' and 'Turn' was also released in July. All these singles came from the album 'Echo' that sold over 100,000 copies earning them a Gold Disc and a spot at #5 in the album charts.

Then tragedy struck as Jon was found dead in his Miami home. He had committed suicide at 33. Nicholas and Hirose made the decision to carry on and recruited the help of Mark Richardson from Skunk Anasie to carry on the recording of the album. Again using the expertise of Gil Norton 'Comfort In Sound' was released October 2003. August 2004 they released a collection of B-Sides 'Picture Of Perfect Youth' and a new album 'Pushing The Senses' was released in 2005. read less
