Biography
Samael started as a speed metally old style black metal band and morphed into a dark doomy metal band then turned more commercial black styles later in their career.Formed in August 1988, Switzerland when someone kindly offered to chip in for some of their equipment. Working hard they finally played their first show in Germany in front of a crowd of only 80 but this made them realise that they had to continue. Mas was then invited to join the band and they played in Poland for the first time with the new line-up. During 1991 they toured France, Poland and Germany, by now they were pulling in crowds of over 7,000. Koas joined in 1995 and with the departure of Rodolph during the summer Xy decided to move onto keyboard as he was already writing most of the music but was unwilling to give up percussion, so the band brought in a drum machine.
