Floaty

Wild Beasts haven’t changed an awful lot since their debut album, which isn’t a bad thing. Still reminiscent of Antony and the Johnsons in tone and with Hayden Thorpe’s vocals still floating in their falsetto range, he does sound less strained on this single taken from their upcoming second record, but for me he still sounds better when he sings lower down his range. This tune is very laid back, with piano and minimal guitars but building to a nice crest of gentle alt-noise. Wild Beats are good if you like music with a little off centre quirk about it; vocally they are unusual as Thorpe plays with his range to interesting effect and musically they float dreamily. ‘Hooting & Howling’ is a solid tune from them and a good intro to the new album “Two Dancers”.
