A Solid Cover

‘True Love Will Find You In The End’ is a beautiful tune, the soft and heartfelt vocals ruminate over a backing that’s perfectly minimalist in order to bring out the sincere sentiments. A cello aches gently, percussion chimes with a regular reassurance and every note is conducive to creating a soothing and sweet tune. 26 year old Walters’ voice is a delight with an agonising sense of restrained emotions bubbling just below the surface.

The trouble is that this is a cover, and it seems very sad that Walters chose to precede his album ‘The Animal’ with a cover, albeit a very strong one. I can’t speculate on Daniel Johnston’s original, but being that both artists are singer/songwriters, I imagine they have a similar feel, even if the instrumentation and vocals differ greatly. All I can tell you from this single is that Walters has a nice voice and has adapted a nice song, so it’s a shame that his record company didn’t choose to release his own material at this stage.
