The Seal Cub Clubbing Club - Made of Magic

The Seal Cub Clubbing Club, a five piece from Northwest England, appear to be a very intriguing band indeed as single ‘Made of Magic’ shows. It’s fast, loud and complete with incomprehensible lyrics spat out at the rate of a speeding train. At times it’s a well executed song, but at others the speeding vocal style can be slightly grating and a bit of a nightmare for the listener.

'Made of Magic’ speeds away quite nicely along the same lines until it breaks down to a slightly bizarre and electronic sounding interlude, and this comes close to derailing the speeding train. Thankfully it picks up the tempo again and ends on the slightly repetitive strains of the beginning, coming full circle.

It’s rather infuriating to listen to, as this song holds great potential and there are glimmers of almost brilliance throughout, but The Seal Cub Clubbing Club appear to lose sight and hold of these glimmers of brilliance. Oddly enough, this is a song that appears to have the potential to work well in a live environment and perhaps that’s where it’d be more enjoyable to hear. It’s an incredibly eccentric song that almost works brilliantly. Almost, but not quite.
