Third album from UK wrecking crew.

Fast rising Brit death metal squad Trigger the Bloodshed build on their burgeoning reputation with their new album ‘Degenerate’. Despite being a resolutely brutal and heavy band there is a clarity to their vision which many other acts operating in this genre are missing. Jonny Burgan can grunt and snarl with the best of them but his diction is precise and clean (well, as death metal vocals can ever be) and his lyrics deal with oppression and fear in a thoughtful way. Behind his vocals the band thunder with glorious abandon. There is a technicality about Trigger the Bloodshed but this does not take precedence over actual song writing and there are riffs aplenty on ‘Degenerate’. Just stand back and appreciate the majestic grind of ‘De Breed’ which is slashed into bloody pieces by Rob Purnell’s razor sharp lead lines, the whirlwind of riffs and machine guns drums that pepper ‘Dead Vein’ or the almighty groove welded to ‘Dethrone’. Think Slipknot tackling ‘Hammer Smashed Face’.

The production is another stand out aspect of this release - each instrument is given space and prominence without sounding cluttered or messy. Credit must go to producer Mark Daghorn for giving the band such a solid sonic platform to showcase their increasingly sophisticated brutality. Trigger the Bloodshed may have slowed down compared with past releases but that only allows them to take in the world around them and deliver a more focused record. Without a doubt the British death metal scene is going from strength to strength and Trigger the Bloodshed are at the scene’s forefront. The wrath of the children indeed.
