Individual and inspired

Kings Of Leon present this track 'King Of The Rodeo' from their album 'Aha Shake Heartbreak'. It's a mixture of sound that has the various parts providing a plethora of counterpoints for each other, as well as for the vocals that are different to say the least. There're shades of both the Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster and Bloc Party in here. Subtle airing of the obvious talents involved in this number comes through and the bands own slant on music generally is beautifully produced. Where you may think that the differences between the music and vocals could be unmanageable they prove exactly the opposite. Like two lines travelling in parallel there does not appear to be a crossover, until suddenly, it is not only there, but you are in the middle of it. This is part of the magic that The Kings Of Leon weave into their music and in this number you can see why U2 offered them the chance to support them on their huge American tour. The draw back is that if you miss those crossovers then you will miss the whole point of the number.

With a band like this you will either understand what they are doing musically or not. In this kaleidoscope of sounds and vocal work they certainly have something that is distinctive, but it seems to be too into itself to allow others easy access to appreciate it.
