Beautiful Trip

Our Band of the Month for February, Stereo Is A Lie, recommended Ringo Deathstarr as one of their bands to check out and with their debut album, "Colour Trip", being released, what better time to do so.

The Austin, Texas trio have already made plenty of friends on these shores with their infectious rocking fuzz meets shoegaze rock and this 11 track introduction, to all those that have yet been seduced by Ringo Deathstarr, is a sure fire way to seduce a hell of a lot more people.

The boy girl vocal harmonies between Elliott Frazier and Alex Gehring work beautifully throughout, the low vocal style puts more emphasises on the music and when the music is this good that is a very good thing indeed. There are plenty of nods to other band styles on the album, including the vibe of Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, My Bloody Valentine and even a nice Black Rebel Motorcycle Club-esque bass line at the start of 'Tambourine Girl'.

'So High', which preceded the album as a single, and 'Day Dreamy' are the more gentle tracks on here and they help make sure the album does not contain the same style throughout. The long drawn out dreamy ending to 'Day Dreamy' is immediately followed by that BRMC style start of 'Tambourine Girl', which having them together makes it sound so much more cutting, great example of brilliant producing right there.

At just under 34 minutes long, Ringo Deathstarr's "Colour Trip" is a trip well worth taking. All 11 tracks are the genuine article, not a single weak track which makes you want to hit the skip button. If you have not already been seduced by this trio, we suggest you do so soon, especially if they buy the Shiners.

Ringo Deathstarr are currently in Europe and will be playing The Luminaire, in London, on 7th March, which should be a very special night as, we have been informed, that it will be the last ever live gig at this iconic venue. What a great way to say goodbye to an old friend of a venue.
