AWOLNATION - Megalithic Symphony

Following on from the single 'Sail', which has been causing madness on the other side of the Atlantic, comes 'Megalithic Symphony', the debut album from AWOLNATION, the solo project of Aaron Bruno, formerly of Under the Influence of Giants and Hometown Hero.

It opens with a minute or so long musical mash of electronics that sound rather like a headache on the move, which is followed by a quick mumble in the form of 'Some Sort of Creature' about a rodent creature (!). These two segments are certainly not the best ways to introduce your debut record, but luckily, once this madness is over, the real album can begin.

'Soul Wars' is an in your face song with strong attitude driven vocals and upbeat natured music. 'People' is a light-hearted song, fused with electronica and vocally delivered beautifully. 'Jump On My Shoulders' takes on a more poppy nature with lyrics that demand to be yelled loudly, and music you can't help but be captivated by. 'Wake Up' starts quite intensely, but develops into something with a striking chorus and punchy verses. 'Guilty Filthy Song' sounds to be much more united, and makes the album more alive and full of spirit. This united feeling also applies for tracks such as 'Kill Your Heroes'. These are just some of the amazing sounds to be heard on this release, there is also the beautiful choir like 'All I Need' among many others.

No matter which track you choose to listen to there is something special waiting in store as each of the tracks dives into something different, reflecting an interest in many genres of music. There is some rock, pop and also electronic elements all fused into these songs at different parts and to different degrees throughout the album making for a surprise around each corner. This debut album is a bold statement, stating AWOLNATION is here and want to be heard. The opening segment will certainly catch your attention, even only for you to be startled by and then impressed by what is to follow, which you will be!
