Sweet Indie Tunes
Sweet Baboo aka singer-songwriter Stephen Black is very well known on the Welsh indie scene and deserves to be acknowledged far wider afield with his touching and amusing lyrics bringing warm and melodious tunes to life so they sparkle and engage immediately; you may find yourself charmed and aching for more on just one listen of this EP.
Opener 'Girl Under A Tree' is tender and sweetly catchy, making you move while you smile knowingly at the slightly melancholic lyrics. 'The Day I Lost My Voice' skilfully weaves vocal melody and intricate, nicely distorted guitars and 'Great Year' brings out Black's slightly cracked vocal style with minimal instrumentation. Again though, it's memorable with some nicely put together backing vocals and another great tune. A combination of warm indie-pop tunes, and down to earth lyrical content means this EP is a real winner.
