Scuzzy Post-punk

This painfully lo-fi recording from post-punk trio Ragweed makes it quite hard to know what they actually sound like at times; forced to turn the volume ever higher to hear anything but the vocals, one's ear drums are occasionally treated to an evil blast of feedback scuzz, mind you, it is a live performance captured here and it does make you wish you'd been there to see them perform these tracks, so...

Actually if you can work your way past the live coffee grinder fuzz and the muffled blanket that mushes together the individual noises being produced there are some great tracks hiding away, like manically energetic opener 'Smiler' and 'Is This How?' which holds a cracking bass line and core melody and 'Sunshine' which is kind of like Pixies meets The Hives and has an awesome "One two fuck you" sing along moment, class. Vocally they are spot on; with an aggressive delivery and (what sounds like) oft pissed off lyrics they give you plenty to get your teeth into.

After your ears stop ringing you'll think, 'actually I really enjoyed that', and stick it back on again straight away.
