Metalcore lives
The Ocean Between Us show us why they won the Red Bull Bedroom Jam Wild Card and made such an impression at festivals this Summer on their new single "My Social Life Took Over My Whole Life". The band play it fast and furious, revelling in their metalcore sound, think a mix of As I Lay Dying and While She Sleeps for a general comparison, with death-metal vocal growls and melodic sections combined with meaty riffs, some nice layering and the odd snatch of glitchy electro they manage to keep things pretty fresh and maintain a distinctive sound.
Metalcore may be one of those subgenres that divides opinion these days but TOBU prove that there is a reason why it's still going strong. This single has a great lead riff and is noisy and anthemic enough that you remember it afterwards.
