Nasty alt-rock

Andy Falkous certainly hasn't mellowed over the years, still seemingly as musically angry as ever, but showing flashes of the dark humour we so loved in those McLusky days; lines like "He'd loved a racist once, she'd kept a tidy house, it must have paid much better in the seventies" will have you snorting your cup of tea through your nose.

Falkous leads the charge on Cardiff based Future Of The Left's new 6 track EP, deftly backed by some fantastic bass (the band has recently been joined by the excellent ex-Million Dead bassist Julia Ruzicka) and a dense layer of fuzzy distortion. FOTL's dark alt-rock has never made for particularly easy listening, as they err on the jagged, scratchy side, however if that's not your thing, the four piece also inject enough tuneful moments to keep you happy like the closing moments of opener 'Polymers Are Forever' which will have you moving, with its grooveable beats and memorable melody. But if like us, you love the distortion, dirty bass and vocal theatrics well you're on to a winner from the start and the tunes are just a bonus.
