Late Night Fiction - Exits, Pursued by a Bear

In the two or so years since the formation of Hull based band Late Night Fiction, the quartet have shared the stage with some amazing musicians such as the likes of Twin Atlantic, The Xcerts and Flood of Red. After building on the live performance aspect of their abilities, the release of their new single is something to look forward to.

'Exits, Pursued by a Bear' opens with the gentle breeze of strumming guitars and gradually gains more momentum, although not as much as expected. With an opening such as this, one may have expected a little more oomph especially the moment 40 seconds or so in when the vocals scream, however guitars do not rumble and drums do not pound heavily; this is not a negative aspect though. The lack of loud strumming and pounding is actually quite refreshing. As the vocals are raw, switching between a gentle sing, to a tougher tone to the occasional yelp, they are much more evident and tend to elevate above the music. At the point where things do liven up a great deal more, the melodic blend of music and vocals create the perfect combination, and a brilliant single.
