Sweet indie-pop
Duke Special's new single has all those dreamy poppy-indie hallmarks you expect from Belfast based songwriter Peter Wilson's work under this moniker; he apparently describes his sound as 'hobo-chic' which does pretty much sum it up. It's a sweet little tune, not catchy as such, but the gentle melody soothes and his voice is light and breathy which will suit fans of Belle and Sebastian as it employs that same mix of winsome male vocal, piano and strings with dreamy overtones - perhaps more gentile than that band even but the backing is certainly full and lush.
Wilson's music certainly does have a niche, it's one for the dreamers, the lovers of gentle head nodding - this single may not set the world on fire but it is very sweet and should be a hit with his fans.
