Meretto - Superiority Complex EP

The last decade has been quite a turn of events for Meretto. Although formed in Reading back in 2003, it was their move to the capital that really gave them the nod in the right direction they needed to begin to fulfill their musical ambitions. They began as a two piece, Stu Bell on guitar/vocals and Matt Burgess bass/vocals and a drum machine in back. However, four drummers later and Steve Hughes added the finished touches to make a trio.

Since moving to London, which inspired their 2005 debut album Chainsaw Art, the band produced a second release in 2010 titled Street Talking and now a three track EP called Superiority Complex. Opening with the title track, the EP carefully draws you in with its sharp guitar playing and driven rhythms. The guitar solo especially drills itself into your head. The End Of Me is an intriguing song as it has a soulful vibe at times, a bit more of a bounce in its melodies, an underpinning synth edge layer but topped off with the growing indie rock fulfilment that all comes together and explodes towards the end. The Architect is the concluding track and demonstrates a softer side to the trio, yet is a more determined and strong minded piece of music. The presence of backing harmonies supports the songs style very well.

After two albums and nearly ten years in the business it is easy to hear why Meretto is still going strong.
