Obzidian - Damned Eternal

Formed in 2001, Obzidian have been busy gigging around the Midlands and the rest of the UK. To spread their music a little further they now release Damned Eternal.

Damned Eternal kicks off with an impressive instrumental track; 21:15, coming in at over five minutes long, it gives Obzidian plenty of time to show off their musical skills. There are plenty of great riffs lurking within the track to keep it chugging along.

The second track; The Murder Song, lasts for an epic 10 minutes and 10 seconds, sadly, I am very aware of how long this track last for. It seems never ending, which is not what you want when you're only two tracks in. Ghosts Of Yesterday is also ridiculously long; again over ten minutes, and again, you feel it. Both tracks feel directionless, as though they are long for the sake of being long.

The remaining shorter tracks on the album are much nicer to listen to. They really showcase the band's musical talent, all members have impressive skills on their chosen instruments and all the tracks are beautifully layered and put together.

Overall, Damned Eternal is a good release from a promising British band, they definitely have the talent and if they can keep all their songs focused then they are onto a winner.
