Johnny Lucas - Attention

Johnny Lucas grew up in Warrington but moved to London with the hope of making his break in music. After spending several years working in rock bands, he has now stepped out on his own and released his indie infused debut album Attention.

Opening track The Purpose is a tender number with a big chorus that introduces you to Johnny's vocal style, but it's the second and title track Attention where you hear him stepping into his own and he really does grab your attention. There's something instantly likeable about this song; the melodies heard on this track give it a real infectious quality and by the second chorus you'll find yourself singing along.

There is a strong Brit-pop sound running throughout Attention, there's no mistaking that Johnny's vocal style is coming from an English lad, at several points during the album I find myself thinking of Blur's Damon Albarn. One of the great things about this album is that despite some of the tender moments that can be heard there are a lot of tongue in cheek undertones.

If you're a fan of British artists, infectious songs and big choruses then Attention is the album for you. All the songs on this album have been well performed and well produced, but there's a raw element meaning you can perfectly imagine how great these songs would sound when performed live.
Besides the title track, standout numbers are Kelly and Wishing Away. Johnny Lucas has proved himself to be a strong singer-songwriter who knows how to write strong indie based songs with pop sensibilities.

Having made the finals of the Success Express Next Big Thing competition, and recently shooting his debut music video starring Neighbours favourite Dr Karl Kennedy, Johnny Lucas is a home-grown talent who is on his way to bigger and better things. Attention is a cracking debut effort.
