With Passion - Not your average Death Metal!
From the edge of the vortex where hardcore and the most brutal of metal merges comes a new breed of band. With Passion rage their way onto the music scene with a malicious metallic debut unrivalled by other bands of a similar genre. With Passion's debut album "In the Midst of Bloodied Soil" can hardly be described as mainstream death metal, nor as pure hardcore but as a deliciously violent in-between. With abrasive and dynamic drumming skills that threaten to smash those seemingly hardy drum sticks in two and a combination of abrupt and yet beautiful displays of seasoned guitaring skill, With Passion's sound is the embodiment of pure violence, raw, wild and raging.
Combine this with the abrasive sounds of chaotic, gruff vocal talents and you might think that "In the Midst of Bloodied Soil" is just another screaming album that passes off noise for music but not so. With Passion certainly love to create an atmosphere within their music and they do this not just with vicious sounding hammer-ons, raw slides and abrupt pull-offs, but also with the introduction of sinister church organ synthesisers. For most of the album this haunting backdrop serves only to be an atmospheric stronghold for the raging storm-like metal to grip onto, a constant steady rhythm that rings through no matter what the time change or how quickly a time change may come about. For this reason, this important enhancement of With Passion's music is often drowned out and may be ignored, but it is in the few softer tracks of this album that With Passion display the density and atmospheric quality that is the lifeblood and key behind the otherwise abrasive, wickedly fast melodies of their music. Perhaps then, this would make "The Scorpions Dance" one of the key tracks upon this delicious offering of metal. The song displays this key backdrop of synthesised church organs and strings in all its force. Moody yet haunting, melancholy but beautiful, the sound of "The Scorpions Dance" is one that paints a picture of a ruined soul, seething with pain and fury. However it is purely an instrumental that comprises only of these synthesisers and so does not display all the qualities of With Passion's potential. However, the follow on track, which uses the same basic rhythm structure as before, does. "Darkness Doth Bring Mortality", brings both synthesised and raw unlimited metal together in unholy bliss.
If you're looking for a powerful yet tamer example of With Passion's power then look no further than "Darkness Doth Bring Mortality" to satisfy your appetite. This track is full to the brim with dancing guitar effects that play on the ear like sunlight on water, raw soaring vocals and a pure undying love for metal that allow With Passion to carry their bands namesake with pride. "Darkness Doth Bring Mortality" forces across the extreme passion that they hold for their music and this, among so many other factors, makes this track the absolute highlight of "In the Midst of Bloodied Soil".
With Passion bring with them wildly beautiful metal and great potential. "In the Midst of Bloodied Soil" is sure to be a hit amongst those who love their metal raw and dripping with pure atmospheric aggression. Their unique depth and abrasive melodies will ensure that this band rise above all others in the genre of death metal.
