Far from dead, this is a vicious album filled with life…

Winnebago Deal do not waste time. They do not waste energy. They do not waste money on bassists either. If you’re after filth churned rock that can pack a punch and are staring at the new album ‘Dead Gone’, you’re looking in the right direction. This is the kind of music that nightmares are afraid of. Bleeding like a battered cat, ‘Dead Gone’ ferociously rips at your mind with its jagged guitars and somehow manages to captivate you whether you like heavy music or not.

Ben Perrier (vocals and guitar) and Ben Thomas (drums) are two people who seem to be possessed by some kind of demon. They seem capable of raging for almost 40 minutes with the kind of style so many bands of today lack. Their music might be raw and in danger of imploding with the violence it carries, but it’s an invigorating album that manages to get you off your ass and onto your feet ready to cause chaos. It’s an album that changes with ease and fills the gap where your regular bassist would be with growling guitar work in such a way that you don’t even notice the absence of the standard third member. Songs like ‘Breakdown’ tend to become legendary tracks played over the UK before going out in the evening. It’s vibrant and so full of the primal forces in life that you cannot help but nod your head or growl along to what you hear. Smashing all the essentials of a good rock band into tasty 2-3 minute snippets, Winnebago Deal are all about what is necessary and what isn’t. There is not a single note on this album that doesn’t need to be where it is.

With ‘L.S Fiction’ beginning in a slightly more toned down manner, Winnebago Deal manage to focus the attention of the listener onto their music rather than the sheer amount of noise that two people can create. ‘Knife Chase’ is also a hefty slice of don’t-give-a-shit attitude that engages the listener effortlessly, but it’s the brilliant track ‘Cargo Bull’ which proves to be the unsung hero of this album. It’s the quietest track on the album, but it will still melt the face of anyone who thought two man bands could only be as loud as The White Stripes. Think again, because Winnebago Deal are a melting pot of sweaty gore will, with ‘Dead Gone’ find a whole new legion of fans at their feet awaiting orders. Kill my pretties, kill…
