Queens of Brighton

We've waited too long for the return of McQueen, in fact it was last year that their fantastic debut single 'Like I Care' smashed its way out of speakers everywhere. 'Running Out of Things To Say' is a taster for the already completed album and on this evidence we're in for a treat!

If there's one thing McQueen do well, it's big choruses and both tracks on offer here deliver in style. Cat de Casanove proves once again what a smart guitar player she is and is ably supported by new bassist Sophie Taylor. Hayley Cramer provides a thumping drum accompaniment and over it all Leah Duors spits gravelly vocals full of passion and controlled aggression. Ok, so yes in places they do sound like the Distillers but since when was that a negative? McQueen have enough of their own sound though to carry it all off with aplomb. The guitars have a nice discordant edge in the verse but explode gloriously into the chorus and you find yourself singing along before the end of the first listen. If you've seen them live you'll know that there's no studio trickery behind their sound either, these girls are the real deal!

Track two is just as good, 'Life Support ICU' has a quirky verse with choppy guitar work before building into yet another outstanding chorus! This could easily be a single in its own right and it seems that for the moment at least McQueen can do no wrong.

Already getting massive airplay in the States and elsewhere it's surely only a matter of time before McQueen get the success they've worked so hard for. In a word, excellent!
