Getting The Elbow

Well it is not hard to see where the influences are here! If you are a fan of Maximo Park, Doves, I Am Kloot, then Elbow are definitely going to be up your street. The Northern heart of Elbow beats through 'Forget Myself', and shows that there is still some fantastic indie music being generated and produced up north.

The opening to me is a reminder of some of the openings on U2's first album 'Boy', it is a fantastically worked intro, that builds into a crescendo of quality rock music. There are some great heavy beats throughout 'Forget Myself' that, may God forgive me, remind me of another Mancunian export – Oasis in their early days.

'Forget Myself' is a hymn to the weekend ritual of a 'normal' British resident, maybe some of you will not recognise yourselves in their single. All I can say that it is very much like the weekend rituals of this thirty-something Mancunian reviewer at the weekend!

There are no heavily produced processed beats, this is just a good old-fashioned rock song, that has that X-factor. No wonder Zane Lowe (Radio 1) is giving this tune a regular airing. With 'Forget Myself' as the lead single I cannot wait to get my hands on their third album 'Leaders Of The Free World', if you want a decent cd collection get out there and discover Elbow.
