Forgiven and totally forgotten

You know when you listen to an album, then once it's finished, you can't remember a single thing about it? Well, that's exactly what happened to me with Frontside's freshest offering - Forgive us our Sins.

Not saying it's a bad album, because it isn't. Everything's done well here, except for a few vocals that fail to be scary or powerful and just end up irritating. There's nothing too bad here to make this an offence to the ears. It's just, everything that is here has been done better by previous bands - Slayer, Kreator, Mayhem and so on certantly don't need to start shaking in their boots just yet. This music simply isn't unique enough to break into metal legacy.

And that's a real shame, because Frontside clearly i have potential - Forgive us our Sins has some tracks here, especially 'The Accused', which positively scream out "well written song", but the execution of them mame them so badly that the lister is left wanting just a little more.

However, there are some things on here that do need to be commended. Firstly, the calm vocals on 'Cry of the Debased' are so excellently put in that I actually played this song four times in a row, because I loved them so much. This and 'The Accused' are definitely the shining points of this album, being clever enough for me to be able to remember them. It's a shame the whole album wasn't like this.

Frontside, unlike so many of these angry metal bands, do have something to them, and edge that not many bands have. It's there, and it needs to be allowed to develop and wrench Frontside out of the generic shell they're stuck in, and launch them into metal super stardom. This is not, I repeat not, a bad album, and I advise you to invest in a copy. But don't expect groundbreaking metal. Instead, brace yourself for well executed generic anger.
