Athlete - Twenty Four Hours
I have to say first and foremost that I am not an Athlete fan. I think that there are far too many of these Coldplay/Keane/Snow Patrol type bands around at the moment, but I have to admit that Twenty Four Hours, the latest offering from Athlete was not as bad as I had anticipated.
The last track I heard by Athlete was the song 'Wires' which I found utterly unbearable to listen to and this new single is not a massive departure from the monotonous ballads seen in previous albums. It is however, significantly more easy on the ear despite following the same indie-rock-ballad formula.
Existing fans of Athlete will no doubt love this track, as will the NME, Radio One, and the other usual suspects. There is no denying that love them or hate them, Athlete are a pretty big band right now having scored number one singles in the UK charts as well as their album 'Tourist' shifting over 500,000 copies.
Twenty Four Hours is released on Parlophone on November 14.
