Monkey Business

This is the debut offering from Dublin band Humanzi, a double a–side featuring 'Fix The Cracks' and 'Get Your Shit Together'.

Musically Humanzi are pretty interesting, falling somewhere between punk and indie rock with pop/dance undertones. 'Fix The Cracks' certainly gets the head nodding early on with its strangely hypnotic 80's sound that leads into a more standard shout a-long chorus. There's a nice break towards the end that adds a good depth and structure to the song, although having said that, as a stand alone track it's not outstanding. This is the sort of song that when played as part of an album will probably work exceedingly well; it's catchy enough but weighed against some of the other bands around at the moment it's not quite there.

'Get Your Shit Together' has a touch of the more upbeat Dead 60's numbers about it, no bad thing and again it's a good song. Humanzi are instantly listenable and it's good to hear they have chosen to diversify their sound away from now tiresome garage rock blend. Likeable though this is, there just seems to be something missing, that little something that could make the difference between good and great, a promising debut though and if they find that special something you can expect to hear a lot more from Humanzi.
