A lush, quiet ballad? It must be near Christmas.

First thing's first, this is a beautiful record - a lush quiet ballad that borders the worlds of Teenage Fanclub and your grandparents' favourite old ballads. If some crooning boy band released it as their Christmas single, it would sail into the Top 5 with ease.

For those of you in the dark about The Trashcan Sinatras, they have been around for years. Whenever there has been a good cause or a space needing to be filled by a dependable and local Scots act, the Trashcans have never been far away and for many, they have slipped into the level of being aware of them but never really knowing anything about them.

Seemingly more loved and respected around the globe than they are in the UK, the band have developed quite a large worldwide following and this track will do them no harm as they appeal to the Scots Diaspora and lovers of Scottish imagery.

'Wild Mountain Side', although written by the Trashcan Sinatras, was previously released by Eddie Reader (of Fairground Attraction and 'Perfect' fame, who also went to the same secondary school as this reviewer, albeit in very different eras) on an album celebrating the work of Scottish poet Rabbie Burns and the lyrics dovetail beautifully with descriptive and flowing poetry, and are complimented by soft, slow paced vocals and a quiet finger-picked guitar backdrop.

Okay, it's not the usual Room Thirteen fare and some of our regular readers would run a mile at the thought of hearing this track, but c'mon, 'tis the season and there will be someone in your family who will love this vulnerable reflective track, so why not let them hear it.
