Smells like teen spirit

The Like are fast emerging as "the" pop rock act most likely to gatecrash the mainstream in 2006. The band may have polished up their sound somewhat following a move to major label Geffen but they still retain the edge that made them an interesting prospect in the first place.

(Elizabeth) Z Berg's husky vox are the ace in The Like's pack when added to smart, hook-y tunes and the fantastically named Tennessee Thomas' driving drumming. "June Gloom" may possess a relentlessly upbeat tune - one part "Celebrity Skin" era Hole to two parts Belly at their "Star" peak – but there's definitely something darker afoot lyrically as Z Berg sings of "sunsets lost in skies of hazy grey, June Gloom sets in, puts me in a daze". The Like blend grit with vulnerability in a way not seen since the tail end of the last decade and combined with teen enthusiasm could end up emulating those bands they sub-consciously pay homage to.
