Criminally Under - Appreciated
Kicking off with the edgy and appealing 'Cherry Lips' 'Derdang Derdang' the latest release from the criminally under-appreciated Archie Bronson Outfit has the immediate markings of being an astonishing album. First impressions really don't disappoint either as all 11 tracks have something that should appeal to everyone.
With bluesy roots and an indie pop sensibility throughout, this release just feels special. The rhythmic beats of the drums and the funky retro style guitar riffs put a sway in your hips and inspire you to want to dance around like a lunatic. There is something incredibly sensuous to the sound on show here. 'Dart For My Sweetheart' with its Franz Ferdinand tightly wound guitars brings to mind the sexy dancing of Heather Graham in Austin Powers 2. In a tiny cavern like venue you would be able to feel the pheromones flying about during a live set because anyone not feeling the urge to move in even a slightly kinky manner would have to be soulless. Add a White Stripes blues element to the tracks and you've got here one of the most edgy and interesting releases that you're likely to find from the indie cannon.
The question has to be asked, with music like this why haven't Archie Bronson Outfit taken over the world yet? 'Derdang Derdang' is inordinately groovy but with a dark heart and a feeling of soul and emotion that most current chart favourites would struggle to find. With a broad stylistic range it really should keep music fashionistas and those who genuinely love music happy.
