The Seal Clubbing Club – EP2

For what seems like rather cruel name for a band, I was intrigued to see what this EP from Merseyside band the Seal Cub Clubbing Club sounded like. Whilst I was relieved to discover that there doesn't appear to be any cruelty to animals going on in their music, I was hard pressed to actually form an opinion about it.

The EP, which is actually their second to date, did not really have a particular stand out track, it was all quite samey. The Seal Cub Clubbing Club kind of sound like every other guitar band around at the moment, however they are not bad at what they do. The singer can sing, the guitarist can play guitar, but they seem to lack any chemistry in the song writing department.

There are parts of the EP that sees the vocalist hitting scarily high Darkness style notes, but I'm not convinced their music is accessible enough for them to ever hit the mainstream. I'm sure there will be plenty of people who like these quirky indie Brit rock bands; if I had to pick a memorable track I would probably choose track three, 'Worlds of Fashion'. It is a more tranquil song, with a much more acoustic sound.
