Just in time for summer

Fresh new Dundee indie hopefuls Hazey Janes release their second single from debut album 'Hotel Radio' on May 15th.

'Always There' has a warm summer feel to it. It's one of those tracks that makes you imagine it was recorded on the west coast of America, in the same way the debut Thrills album did.

This two-minute blast of feel good alternative rock has an air of Teenage Fan Club about it, from the 'Grand Prix' part of their career. Add to this a twelve string guitar sound that was characterized by the Byrds and the up beat catchy song structure which Magic Numbers and Travis have made their own, this on paper seems irresistible.

Maybe it's the length of the track, or the fact that, despite being perfectly enjoyable the tune doesn't get stuck in your head even with several listens, but although 'Always There' is pleasant enough, it doesn't have the necessary grab factor to make it a classic.

There is a lot of promise about this track, and although for me it doesn't quite deliver and is over too soon, it does suggest that Hazey Janes have the potential to release more strong singles, and the album should certainly be worth checking out.

As the festival season is almost upon us, look out for them in a field near you, if the sun is out there's no reason why the live experience shouldn't be worth a look.
