Power up!

The Energy certainly live up to their name with this raucous, white hot slice of rock 'n' roll. Hailing from the town of Warrington they could be the best thing to emerge from that locale since the rugby league team last won the Challenge Cup. Opening cut 'Thursday Night Antics' imagines the Von Bondies relocated to Manchester and given an early Oasis swagger.

Danny Rimmer sneers his way through this sub three minute gem while his cohorts Rick Banks (lead guitar), Nath Keir (bass) and Si Armitage (drums) hammer away at their instruments in a most impressive fashion. The band's awkward attempts at addressing political issues on 'I Love Your Shoes' is laudable but hardly awe inspiring lyrically so thankfully the band are rescued by a real corker of a tune . Unfortunately 'Fair Havana' is rather forgettable by contrast and should have been left on the cutting room floor. The frenetic pace is stepped up a further notch though for E.P. closer 'Little Johnny' which appears to take a sly dig at all of the post Libertines bandwagon jumpers. If the band's live shows are half as thrilling as this impressive self-released debut E.P. you could be hearing a great deal about this band in the very near future.
