Thick Dark Funky Melody

A winding synth melody antagonises brash guitars and rough percussion; this is the sound of the new protest song, a dark, slick brooding beast that engulfs the listener in subtle psychedelia and fervent accord. The Black Angels are the only band currently employing a full time 'drone' player, creating a heavy, forceful sound that's steeped into effects and rugged rock riffs, while the lyrics, "60,00 men died/While you all hid/You came into our home and took our kids" wrestle with your sensibilities in the same way the tune conquers your ears.

Bside 'Nine Years' is swamped by warm synth sighs and is a far more abstract affair than its partner, although both are testament to the fact The Black Angels forthcoming album is definitely one to check out.
