A New Direction For South
'Up Close and Personal' is the latest release from South and is take from their third album 'Adventures In The Underground, Journey To The Stars'.
'Up Close and Personal' opens on vocals, and the music juts in and out for the first few seconds, before it breaks into a more pleasant mix of vocals and music. This is unlike anything we have heard from the band before and the alternation between vocals and music appears through out the song, which I found to be an uncomfortable listen. The chorus on the other hand is much stronger, and you can hear that the band do perform well together.
'Up Close And Personal' is actually the weakest track on this release, B-sides 'Autumn Morning' and 'Something or Nothing' give a much better sense of what the band is about, and make you realise that there is a lot of potential for South to expand on their sound.
