A cheerful single from Jack Johnson's pal

After one misguided reviewer compared Mr Costa to James Blunt I was wondering if this song might make me want to tear my ears off in horror, but thankfully they remain intact and the James Blunt comparisons unfounded. I do wonder about the logic of releasing a single called 'Sunshine' when the weather in England has only just started to approach autumnal, particularly as the song matches the season in that it is breezy and cheerful in style.

'Sunshine' is a piece of acoustic-pop with a pinch of Jack Johnson (no surprise as Matt is signed to Johnson's label) and the hint of a Beach Boys influence. The comparisons to the mighty Dylan strike me as rather over-excitable, but there is little to criticise this song for, although admittedly it reaches no new levels. It is however a pleasant aural experience and is a laidback breeze on a surfing holiday. Catchy and warm this song is a perfect holiday listen, but would certainly have benefited from a summer release rather than a wet autumn one. The outlook is dry but with little hint of sunshine.
