Betty Curse - Hear Lies Betty Curse

Following a goth revival this summer Betty Curse received shed loads of attetion. Now she releases her debut album 'Hear Lies Betty Curse' digitally, but the hard version won't be in stores until January.

After being a teen actress in the hit zombie movie 28 Days Later, Betty has now moved into the music scene. Her blend of power pop with dark lyrics has seen major radio and TV stations playing her single 'Excuse All The Blood'. Her sound reminds my of a lot of American pop/rock artists such as Avril Lavigne or Lindsay Lohan. It's sad to say that there is nothing original to this release. She may look the part and sound it, and obviously there is a gap in the market for a British artist like her, but her image seems to be based on youth culture, so what will happen when the goth look isn't flavour of the month? I figure she will disappear as quickly as she arrived. Opening track 'God This Hurts' is the highlight of the album. The infectious piece of guitar led power pop will instantly get stuck in your head, and it's not often you hear someone fantasising about sucking the blood from a corpse. You can't fault the production on this album and Betty is obviously backed by a very talented band.

This album is full of inoffensive pop rock, which is catchy but generic and clichéd, but she has a lot of commercial appeal, so 'Hear Lies Betty Curse' will probably be a hit.
