A good start for acoustic-folk artist.

Findlay Brown's stock is likely to skyrocket irrespective of his musical virtues after 'Come Home' has already been used on a Mastercard TV advert. Following on from the likes of Jose Gonzalez and Iron & Wine comes another wispy morsel of acoustic folk being used to advertise on behalf of a massive company. Of course for the artist that means exposure on a level it's difficult to gain otherwise, particularly for solo artists of this kind.

'Come Home' is a soft song which appeals more after several listens, and has a likeable fragility, although as the press release is all too keen to point out, Findlay is a bare-knuckle boxer in his spare time and "no introspective wimp", whatever that implies. Although it doesn't surpass the likes of Iron & Wine for Sam Beam's sparse and emotionally stirring compositions, Findlay Brown has managed to produce a promising starting point, and the b-side 'Broken Every Rule' is of a similar standard. It's probable Findlay Brown will receive acclaim quickly, and when he does you can remember you saw quiet praise for him here first. Fans of charming acoustic folk should look out for his debut album 'Separated by the Sea' later this month.
