No Turkey

Blaring rock beats and taught rhythms are the key to Goose's allure, the dirty dance style is infectious and bound to be heating up dance floors across the country soon. The "new rave" title is being bandied about like it's on fire, but Goose give it a new electro edge, creating tunes that are more based on beats and samples than indie melodies and it's a technique that comes off well.

'British Mode' is a sweltering disco floor filler with thumping beats and taught vocal outbursts, a trend that continues for most of the album. Goose fashion tense electro beats that could get any crowd moving, searing synths blare through the percussive rhythm in 'Bring It On' adding a rave element if ever there was one; this is one tune that could definitely stomp its way up the charts. There's more hyperactive tempo trickery in 'Low Mode', which bounces with techno energy punctuated by crisp handclaps. There are some tunes which are too pulsating to engage with on any level other than headbanging, take 'Everybody' for example, it's a 2 and a half minute avalanche of synth squeals and vocal calls.

While 'Slow Down' commands a smooth groove that oozes cool with funk guitar licks, racing instrumental 'Check' speeds things up with as a furious interlude that scrabbles around in screaming synths. 'Modern Vision' features a sly melody that snakes its way between the squelching synths and thundering bass, one of the most compulsive tunes, this is one to pull out at parties.

'3T4's bruising bass fashions a brooding monster of a tune with looming guitar riffs that bring rock back to the forefront of your mind as you ponder which category Goose should really fit into. Another tune that advances this hypothesis is the sleezy and sultry, 'Girl', which recalls New Order in its more monotone moments

Good job Goose didn't call themselves turkey because this record is far from that; wading your way through the squelching sonic textures is good fun and the tunes are all you need to get your Saturday night moving!
